Looking to see more of Australia? Why not explore the East Coast! With so many beautiful destinations, you’d be crazy to miss them.
Cairns
First up, we’ve got Cairns. Up to Northwest Queensland, Cairns is a popular destination for its access to the Great Barrier Reef. If you love snorkelling and diving, the reef is a MUST for your east coast adventure. The reef is an absolute dream for sea life lovers and is beautifully picturesque. Day trips are popular, as well as overnighter trips (up to 3 days!) on the water which gives you the evening perspective of the reef - peaceful and calm. Pelikin Experiences have a special offer for all ISIC members - 3 day snorkelling trip including all meals and snorkel gear. You can’t get much better than this! https://experiences.pelikin.co/productItem
Noosa
Noosa is pretty special. The locals are friendly and relaxed and they love the good things in life - the balmy sunshine and blue skies, calm and relaxing beaches, the diverse tapestry of waterways and national parks, the locally sourced food dished up by amazing chefs and to top it off, nights out on Hastings Street. Noosa’s main beach is perfect for learning how to stand up paddle board followed by freshly shucked oysters and a few cocktails on Hastings Street.
Gold Coast
Travellers wanting to practice their surf skills should definitely consider a stop at Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast. This lively city is different from most other stops around this part of the coast. It’s much busier and the tourist atmosphere means the beaches here are packed just like the beaches in Europe. It’s the perfect city stop while still being close to the coast with loads of activities, restaurants and a busy nightlife to keep you busy. Why not experience the beauty of the Gold Coast on a Sunset Cruise to admire the city from afar while having a few drinks and nibbles.
Byron Bay
Byron Bay is one of the most free spirited towns in Australia. Locals care about very few things, but the sun, surf and chilling out are the most prioritised. This slow town is perfect for taking it easy, eating good food and having delicious cocktails. Aside from the beaches, there are so many areas to explore - completing the lighthouse walk is great to get your daily exercise in or going for a short drive to Nimbin. There are loads of markets with fresh food, arts and crafts as well as handmade goods which are great for souvenirs. Why not get your adrenalin pumping and go Hangliding to take in the true beauty of Byron.
Fraser Island
Fraser Island is known for being the longest sand island in the world. The island features amazing landscapes, beaches, dunes and lakes which are all surrounded by nature. It’s World Heritage listing means there are few hotels in order to preserve the natural essence. Once you’re on the island, there are kilometres of long beaches and down sweeping dunes waiting to be explored before meeting the beautiful clear blue lakes where you can take a dip and swim with the fish around you. Camping tours are so popular as well as four wheel driving (4WD) tours. Without a doubt, Fraser Island is a completely unforgettable experience.
While we have only just touched the surface of some of the gorgeous places you can visit on the East Coast of Australia, this will be enough to get you planning your next trip. If you’re an ISIC member, you can get exclusive deals and discounts on all of the mentioned activities - BOO YAH!
Safe travels!
