With the weather warming up and restrictions easing, there was no better way to spend my weekend than heading up to the Victorian Goldfields – courtesy of ISIC!
My mate and I picked up our JUCY Campervan (we got the Coaster model, but there’s lots of different options to choose from!) and began our 3-day journey. On our way up to Castlemaine, we stopped off at Mount Macedon for some great panoramic views and to visit the huge Memorial Cross, dedicated to those who lost their loves in the First World War. After a bit more driving, we stopped off in Kyneton for a bite to eat, and who could say no to a classic country meat pie?
Arriving in Castlemaine was like stepping back in time – the town is full of beautifully maintained historical buildings dating back to the 1800s when this area was thriving during the Goldrush period. After a quick walk around, we drove our JUCY van out to a campsite south of town and set up for the night.
Our JUCY van set up included a fridge, camping stove, cutlery, storage, bedding and seating – all you need to make yourself comfortable. It was absolute bliss enjoying the sunset over dinner with a beer in hand.
Over the next two days, we explored a heap of things in the Greater Bendigo area – historical trams, gold mines, lookout towers, botanical gardens and nature reserves. There are so many great places on offer in regional areas.
Through the ISIC Extras program, you can gain access to discounts with their partners! We made use of this at Confectionary Capers, where we discovered hundreds of colourful moving contraptions that have been developed over 27 years of operation- it was a joy to explore.
ISIC also has dining partners that give you up to 20% off your bill, which is a perfect way to save a few dollars off the trip cost! We tried House of Khong in Bendigo and had a great meal with very hospitable staff.
The JUCY van gave us the chance to travel with freedom and flexibility in the itinerary, and it was the perfect trip companion with everything we needed in one place.
It was incredible to get out and explore our beautiful country – I’m already planning the next adventure!
